Oak Alley Plantation, Louisiana

oakalleyplantationlouisiana.jpg

This plantation is on the banks of the legendary Mississipi river. The alley of oaks was planted 300 years ago by an unknown french planter.

The plantation was subsequently built on this spot to take advantage of the view of the river down the alley. The alley became a local landmark for the river traffic. Unfortunately the river is now no longer visible due to the banks being built-up. "Oak Alley" was not the name of the plantation, but subsequently became that because of common usage.
