27.09.2004 10:50 - I HATE installing Windows

Well, I went out and bought a Conrad tuning kit.  That\'s an Nvidia board with an AMD 2600 and 512Mb Memory, all put together ready.

SO.. I put it in the new box, which was a bit of a wrestling match, but it\'s in there right now.

The problems started when trying to install Win2000.

OK, so I fdisk\'d the 20mb drive and deleted everything, then started Win2000 from the CD, because I want an OEM installation with no upgrade aggro. Ahahahah.

It started, recognised the disk and asked if I wanted NTFS.  Of COURSE I want NTFS, I want a nice, stable file system which allows me to use big disks.  I don\'t want to go back to Win98\'s scads of wasted disk space, thank you very much.  So off it goes, formatting the disk, very slowly.

An hour later, it\'s finished formatting, and says its checking the disk, currently 0% done.

It says that an hour later.

Bugger.  It\'s crashed.

Restart the machine.

Up comes the blue installation screen with \"win2000 loading\".  Then it stops.

I presume I have to delete the partition and restart it again.  So I have to dig out the Win2000 boot disks which I have somewhere.  I think...

You may ask, why do I want windows?  Well, this is the upgraded recording machine, and so windows is a requirement, as the recording software I use is a windows product.  I like it, it does the job well, and I don\'t want to change now.  (note to linux advocates : you find me a linux system that does the job as well as my old system, and I\'ll convert.  Only it has to be just as good, if not better, with all the functions of the system I\'m using, AND be supported by all the recording hardware I plan to upgrade to.  I want to write music, not drivers.)

As for the complete fuckwittery behind the operating system installation...I despair.
