The other day I happened to be walking through the park when I heard a phone go off. I was somewhat puzzled, as it was quite close, and there was no-one close enough for me to hear their mobile. I presumed someone had lost their mobile and had a look-round for it. That was when I noticed it was coming from up a tree. It was coming from a cheeky blackbird, who'd either learnt it or was being paid a lot of money by Telekomm.
I mention this as I've just seen in the news that they're trying to teach blackbirds in the park in Bonn to sing Beethoven, by getting people to download a particular piece of Beethoven onto their phones. Quite what Beethoven would say is anyone's guess. (Although he probably wouldn't notice, being deaf). It could get quite noisy in the park, with the opening bars of the 5th being belted out every few seconds. I suppose next they'll be teaching Rossini to all the Magpies.
What is worrying is that Deutsche Telekomm have their main offices in Bonn. If they take notice, then the next thing we'll know is they'll be releasing specially-bred brainwashed Blackbirds to sing their adverts. Then the other companies will get in on it, and feeding the birds will become prime-time advertising. You can imagine some old dear throwing bread to the birds whilst they berate her about buying Sanatogen.
Personally, I'm taking steps to avoid avian brainwashing. My ringtone is set to the bit of birdsong at the end of "Blackbird" by the Beatles...
