Just back from two and a half weeks holiday in the southern states of America, dodging hurricanes - three of them to be exact - Gustav, Hanna and Ike, none of which fortunately got close enough to do more than get a bit blowy and soak me to the skin. The rain was even warm, for heaven's sake.
On Monday the ever-present election campaign got demoted to the back seat when the wheels fell off the 'fundamentally sound' (to quote the latest John McCain clanger) American Economy. That's 'fundamentally sound' as in 'it is a dead economy, bereft of life, it rests in peace, it has rung up the curtain and joined the choir invisible'. Don't buy any cars off that guy, folks, especially as he hangs out with someone named Palin.
