Last night my laptop decided not to boot, claiming an inaccessible boot device.

I managed to fix it, but only by removing the disk drive and putting it in another laptop, so I could run the recovery console from the CDrom, as the CDrom on my laptop is broken.

The laptop is an aging Toshiba Satellite 4900, and the hard disk has been playing up for a while now. As soon as I managed to get it back, I copied the contents of the hard drive to the linux server, so my data is at least safe for now.

The problem is, do I go and buy a new laptop, or replace the disk on this? I'd rather, frankly, spend the money on getting a mac mini for the day-to-day office jobs, such as reading mail and newsgroups.
