Firefox 1.0 is out, and it\'s wonderful. I found one of my favorite features the other day, and I\'m going to teach you all how to use it to make your blogging better.
One of the first things I noticed was that when I looked at Oliver\'s blog, a little icon appeared down in the right-hand corner of the browser window. I pointed at it, and it said \"Add Live Bookmark for this page\'s feed\". At this point a little lightbulb went on. They\'ve built an aggregator into Firefox! Highly unsurprising, when you think about it, as Netscape invented Rss in the first place. So I went and looked at my blog. No spiffy aggregator icon. Oh. Back to Olly and after a bit of nosing round the source, I found a couple of lines in the header that go something like this :
<link rel=\"alternate\" type=\"application/atom+xml\" title=\"Atom\" href=\"http://owt.typepad.com/blog/atom.xml\" />
<link rel=\"alternate\" type=\"application/rss+xml\" title=\"RSS\" href=\"http://owt.typepad.com/blog/index.rdf\" />
<link rel=\"EditURI\" type=\"application/rsd+xml\" title=\"RSD\" href=\"http://www.typepad.com/t/rsd/18910\" />
<link rel=\"meta\" type=\"application/rdf+xml\" title=\"FOAF\" href=\"http://owt.typepad.com/foaf.rdf\" />
Obviously pointing to Olly\'s rss descriptions of his blog. At this point I went off and hacked a pair of similar lines into the templates for my blog and tried them out. It works, and it works wonderfully. Not only do you get a \"Live Bookmark\" with that spiffy little icon, it opens up to show you the last few articles. I\'m busily tweaking any pages I have rss feeds on to support this, and so should you.
