Yesterday the Stadtarchive building in Cologne collapsed. It is in Waidmarkt, on the end of Severinstr. It collapsed due to the new tunnel for the North/South U-bahn collapsing. The building was evacuated, but three people remain unaccounted for.
This building was diagonally opposite my old flat, with the old Polizei Präsidium between them. Fortunately, I haven't lived there for six or seven years now, but just in case any of you have put 2 and 2 together and gotten 5, don't worry.
It's not as if the Stadtarchiv was architecturally important (although the contents are). I just wish they could have somehow managed to take out the Finanzamt, which is directly opposite.
